Love is like a coin. It has two sides to it. One side is expressed with kind words, tender mercy, and affection. The other side of love is expressed with warnings, rebukes, and correction. Sometimes, the most loving thing we can do is to tell others what they don’t want to hear. Parents who love their children do this all the time!
In the book of Malachi, God does just that. He expresses His love for His children by rebuking them in their sin. In love, He confronts their faithlessness and half-hearted worship so that they might repent and enjoy the other side of His love.
